Hormone Health for Women and Men: When Symptoms Deserve a Closer Look

Changes in energy, sleep, mood, sexual health, and body composition can have many causes. Hormone evaluation may be one part of understanding what is going on.

Hormone symptoms can overlap with many other health concerns.

Fatigue, poor sleep, hot flashes, night sweats, changes in mood, low libido, difficulty concentrating, and changes in body composition are symptoms patients often associate with hormones. Sometimes hormones are part of the explanation, but they are not always the only reason.

At First Choice Anderson, hormone care begins with a conversation – not a prescription.

For women

Hormonal changes can occur throughout adulthood, especially during perimenopause and menopause. Symptoms may include changes in menstrual cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, mood changes, and changes in sexual health.

Evaluation may include a review of symptoms, personal and family history, medications, preventive health needs, and selected laboratory testing when clinically appropriate.

For men

Men may seek evaluation for fatigue, reduced libido, erectile concerns, reduced strength, mood changes, or other symptoms they believe may be related to testosterone. These symptoms can also be influenced by sleep apnea, stress, obesity, medications, thyroid disorders, depression, and other medical conditions.

That is why appropriate evaluation matters before deciding whether hormone treatment is indicated.

Hormone replacement therapy is individualized

HRT is not appropriate for everyone, and there is no universal treatment plan. When therapy is considered, your provider should discuss potential benefits, risks, treatment options, monitoring, and preventive care. Follow-up is important because symptoms and laboratory values can change over time.

Our approach is to use the information we have – your symptoms, history, examination when needed, and laboratory findings – to make a shared decision.

You deserve to understand your options.

If you have noticed persistent changes in how you feel, do not assume that you simply have to live with them. A thoughtful evaluation can help determine whether hormones, another health condition, lifestyle factors, or a combination of issues may be contributing.
